Facebook-new-like-buttonsFacebook’s redesigned Like button is finally here. The billion-daily-user-strong social network has been quietly market-testing Reactions since October; the worldwide rollout begins Wednesday and will likely be on every device that runs Facebook in the next few days. Facebook is finally rolling out its new animated “reactions” to users all around the world. To use them, you’ll just press down on the familiar thumbs-up button beneath any post to display all of the new animations. Besides just “Like,” you’ll now have access to “Love,” “Haha,” “Wow,” “Sad,” and “Angry.”

“Yay” and “Confused” used to be part of the line-up, but Facebook cut them after its tests revealed that people didn’t use them as much as the others. These first five initial reactions could also spawn more options down the line as Facebook learns from how even more people use them. You’ll be able to use the reactions on “sponsored” posts by advertisers the same way that you will use them on your friends’ organic content.

Still, it’s not a change Facebook made lightly. The reactions rolling out today are the product of more than a year of research and experimentation, says Facebook Product Manager Sammi Krug. “We totally understand that the Like button is incredibly iconic, it’s been doing great things for Facebook for the last seven years.”

All joking aside, it’s a much-needed and welcome addition to the Facebook interface. Not surprisingly, according to the social media giant, reactions to Reactions in test groups has been positive.
